Environmental

Botalcura Winery is concerned about global warming and climate change, which are now recognized as a reality that is a direct result of human activity and not of natural phenomena. The winery is therefore committed to undertaking specific actions to care for the environment.

LIQUID WAST TREATMENT PLANT:
After treating liquid wastes, the mud is returned to the earth to reduce the need for chemical fertilizers because the compost provides the plants with better access to the nutrients so they need less artificial fertilizer.

RATIONAL USE OF RESOURCES:

Optimization of water resources:
Botalcura uses just 27% of its water allowance. Instead of using 5 liters of water to produce 1 liter of wine, Botalcura currently uses just 1.3 liters of water per liter of wine.

USING RECYCLABLE SUPPLIES / CHOOSING SUSTAINABLE SUPPLIERS:

Glass bottles: The bottles used are made with 40% recycled glass, which therefore results in extracting less silica sand and reducing soil erosion along the Chilean coastline.

Cardboard boxes: The use of recycled cardboard reduces the number of trees cut down for cellulose production, which contaminates the environment by discharging its waste products into the rivers.

Plastic containers: Choosing suppliers that reuse their container material reduces the amount of non-biodegradable polyethylene contamination of the earth.

Waste: Non-recyclable waste matter is sent to certified lined landfills and liquid waste treatment plants to avoid contaminating the earth.
