Botalcura Winery Receives Important Distinction In The UK

Once again the winery has confirmed the quality of its wines in the “Wines of Chile Innovation Awards”.

Worldwide distinguished journalists, writers and businessmen from the world of wine, recognized Botalcura Winery innovative positioning, in the first version of the Wines of Chile Innovation Awards 2007, which took place in London last December. Dan Jago, Purchase Manager for

Tesco, Peter Richards, wine writer and Graham Holter, from William Reed Publisher, among others, distinguished Botalcura Winery as “Chile´s most innovative wine style”.
The job carried out by the winemaking team, headed by Philippe Debrus, and their challenge to have the first Nebbiolo of the country in their product portfolio, are the main reasons that leaded the selected jury to choose the mentioned Winery from Maule atop other chilean wineries.

Nebbiolo 2005- a variety that will be officially launched by the first semester of 2008- comes from the Maule Valley and was described by the judges as an elegant, solemn and very fresh fruity wine, in a unique and different style that perfectly reflects Chile’s diversity.

“It is very stimulating to recibe this distinction for us, since it allows us to validate that we are on the right way; offering to our consumers; innovative, unique, attractive and different wines”, says Philippe Debrus.

It is also important to mention that the winery-which name comes from its home town, Botalcura and that in Mapudungun (chileans Indian language) means “big stone”-launched in Chile by the end of 2007 its Icon wine CAYAO, where concentration, refinement, strength and elegance are perfectly combined. All of these elements are infrequently displayed in a bottle of wine.

Botalcura Winery project was founded in 2001 by two partners: Juan Fernando Waidele, an outstanding chilean entrepreneur and the French winemaker Philippe Debrus.

The winery immediately started to outstand, in the local and international market, with the range of wines El Delirio and La Porfía.

“The image that we would like to pass on through our wines, is to take the liberty to create different wines, and in this way, to open the range of options for consumers. Especially to wine lovers and wine connoiseurs, people that appreciate the experience of enjoying a good wine”, concludes Debrus.
