Hot spots for Chile´s VineyardsSubmitted by Editor on June 14, 2008 - 14:46.
By Jancis Robinson Published: June 14, 2008 / The Financial Times www.ft.com/robinson and www.JancisRobinson.com Jancis Robinson recently published her tasting notes on wines from southern Chile, in which Botalcura Winery was particularly distinguished among other Chilean wineries. “In Maule, there is some decent Merlot such as the delicious, unusually artisanal, “natural” tasting wines from Botalcura (whose Nebbiolo is not bad at all) in their delightfully named El Delirio”. Botalcura, El Delirio Reserve Merlot 2005 Maule Tastes vary light bodied and fresh. Transparent. Very slightly marked by French oak but basically underpriced and very natural. Succulent fruit and dry finish. Enterprise in western Maule with a Languedoc winemaker. Nebbiolo 2005 by Botalcura, Maule This does actually taste of Nebbiolo! Well done. Lively with tarry tannins but excellent purity of varietal character. A bit expensive by Chilean standards but not dear relative to the much “thicker” SC Pannell version from Adelaide Hills. Botalcura, El Delirio Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2005, Maule Meaty and lively. Certainly at its peak. Honest fruit but drink soon.
