Our Wine

Our three ranges, El Delirio Reserve, La Porfía Grand Reserve, are the product of tradition, modernity, and sensitivity, as are our Nebbiolo (Chile’s first), and icon wine Cayao.

Botalcura guarantees the highest quality of its wines by ensuring perfection in every step of the production process. Recognition in major international competitions and great reviews from the world press are proof of Botalcura’s success.

Botalcura is in the forefront of innovation and is a trendsetter in Chilean wine production. This is demonstrated by including new varieties such as Nebbiolo into our portfolio and also for being the first Chilean winery to create new and innovative blends such as Syrah/Malbec, Chardonnay/Viognier and Carmenère/Merlot, with the aim of attracting the attention of demanding consumers.

Always daring to try new things, Botalcura produces grapes in Chile’s cooler wine regions located in the west, close to the Pacific Ocean or in the east, near the Andes Mountains. Grapes grown in cooler sites ripen more slowly, which allows the tannins to mature fully while preserving their naturally higher acidity levels, so that the finished wines have better balance between alcohol and acidity.

One of the most distinctive characteristics of Botalcura wines is a slightly higher acidity level than other Chilean wines, so the freshness and velvety tannins captivate consumer’s palate. A clear example of this is the outstanding Carmenere from our La Porfía range.

The intensity of color and the distinctive aromas of our wines make them easily identifiable. We emphasize the full expression of each variety with special touches that reflect the specific conditions in which the wines were grown and made. Our wines offer a full concentration of velvety soft, sweet, and voluptuous tannins, with a long finish on the palate that confirms that quality has been our priority at every stage of production.

Cayao – Icon Wine
Cayao has elements rarely found in a bottle and that only great wines contain: concentration and excellence, strength and style.

La Porfia Grand Reserve
A portion of the Botalcura Winery property was christened long ago La Porfía. This expression alludes to those who have tenacity and perseverance, qualities that fit perfectly with the spirit in which our Grand Reserve wines are made. The wines are aged for a year in French and American oak barrels and are then bottle-aged for an additional year before they are released to market.

El Delirio Reserve
El Delirio is the name originally given to a particular parcel of land at Viña Botalcura. We chose this name, as a suggestion of dreams and fantasy to use for our Reserve Wines. They are well-balanced wines in which the oak and fruit are in perfect harmony. This range explores the world of blends, creating interesting matches that are clearly reflected in the visual presentation of the labels.

Winemaker’s Notes
We searched for and found special vineyards in privileged areas of Chile that were blessed with subtle and matchless conditions for growing different varieties. We carefully watched the plants and sensitively tasted the berries to understand their characteristics and discover their potentials. We strictly controlled the vineyards to protect and express their natural qualities. Winemaking has been delicate and selective; aging has been careful. One bottle of Cayao contains what only great wines can offer: concentration, excellence, strength, elegance. This is Cayao, a wine of an amazing quality that arose from our passion.
